Mr.Kirkness.
We have had only three applications in response to the Hong Kong advertisement, one of which is from a Dane who possesses no qualifications and whose English is extremely bad. I am therefore ruling him out of consideration. I have arranged to interview another candidate - Mr. Mahoney in December, which is the earliest date on which he can get over from the Control Commission, Germany. He seems quite a likely candidate, though I am not really sure that his health is as good as it should be.
The other candidate is Mr.P. Selwyn at
present working in this office.
I think that it would be wise if we were to warn Hong Kong of the poor response to the advertisement, and I have accordingly drafted a savingram.
